All septic tank systems that have a pump to transfer the waste water from the septic tank to any mound or drain field should have a septic tank alarm installed in it. The alarm is triggered when the waste water is not pumped from the septic tank into the mound or the drain field. The owner should immediately call for septic services when the alarm goes off. We will discuss about some reasons that triggers the septic alarm or the sump pump alarm. The septic tank alarm is also known as high water alarm. Reasons that Trigger the Alarm The average life of septic tank pump is 10 years; the alarm goes off when the septic tank pump is broken. There can be many external or internal reasons which can break a pump, it can also happen within the 10 year lifespan of the pump. Other than damaged pump the alarm can also be triggered if the power source to the septic pump is disconnected. When there is no power, then it means that the septic tank pump is malfunctioning. The alarm can go off if the waste water is pumped faster into the septic tank than it is pumped out in the mound or the drain field. If there is leakage in the septic tank and the ground water or surface water is entering into the septic tank then the alarm is also triggered. This is the reason the septic tank pumps face a huge problem during heavy rainfall. In some situations the pipes in the mound or the drain fields are plugged with frozen water or debris. In this situation the waste water cannot pass through those pipes and hence it triggers the septic pump alarm. Lastly, there are some false alarms, which happen due to some technical faults. It is recommended that the owner should never ignore the alarm and should take necessary steps when the alarm goes off.
